Point Loma San Diego, CA Homes for Sale are like buying a home at a beautiful resort. Jutting off the California coast into the Pacific Ocean, Point Loma has the feel of a secluded island with the amenities of being close to San Diego. Historically it has been referred to as the place where California began because it was the first place where explorers landed during their expedition from Mexico. The Old Point Loma Lighthouse is now a famous symbol representing San Diego and is open to the public for viewing of its restored interior. The Sunset Cliffs line the western side of the peninsula and are home to millions of years of fossils and offer visitors a peek into the creatures that inhabited California during a long-ago era. Embedded in the sandstone are some of California's only fossil remains, making these cliffs some of the state's most treasured natural wonders.

Because of the wave-driven erosion on the western side of the peninsula, most neighborhoods are located on the eastern side. Point Loma Village is considered the heart of Point Loma and is known for its shopping, dining, and entertainment venues. Connected to the Village by a causeway is Shelter Island, which is actually a sandbank in the San Diego Bay. It wasn't developed until the 1950s when it was built into an island by pulling up material from the bottom of the bay. Restaurants, hotels, and shopping make Shelter Island a hot tourist attraction. Homes here are known for their views of the bay and the quiet streets that make up the infrastructure of Point Loma. A large part of the economy is derived from fishing and three yacht clubs, small boat marinas, and a commercial sport fishing dock line the Bay side of the peninsula. Every year there is a Day at the Docks celebration to honor the contributions that the fishing business has made to the community. Point Loma is a perfect place to call home especially for those seeking a small community with deep roots in the fishing industry.
